What is your favourite book?

My favourite book is a dramatic text called "HP: Hans Pozo" by Luis Barrales, a chilean playwright. The story focuses in Pozo's life, but from five different perspectives: Hans himself, the mother, Linda, the daughter and the ice cream man. All this perspectives recreate the life and death of Hans Pozo from Barrales' point of view.
I got to know about the text by a friend that I had in school who arrived one day with the text and just told me: "Please, read it". So I did. It took me just an afternoon, as the text is not that long, therefore I could read it more than once and it was a cathartic experience, so to speak, as I think the way that the story is made is very emotional, probably because the final purpose of the text itself  it is to be played. However, the way the play is written is not the formal way of writing a dramatic text, the playwright doesn't give any instruction of how the scene must be played or built on the stage. That's a thing that I like about it, the text relies on the actor and the director, that's why some parts aren't focused on the protagonist or the main story, but in the way that society is built, allowing the actor to "appear" as someone that is not the character but is not him/herself neither but a caricature of actors, as an upper-class person that doesn't feel good portraying a poor person.
After reading the text, many years after, actually some weeks ago, I finally could see the play, as a commemoration of the 10 years since the play was performed for the first time. The play, as it wasn't perfomed exactly from the text, had the same desperation and anguish that made me cry the whole hour that lasted and a few minutes after I got out of the theatre.
Is an incredible text, maybe not so attached to the reality, as the Pozo's case is not that clear neither, but it gives you some perspective from a death that was taken by the show business and transformed into a sort of reality that played with people's feelings as a new part of the body was found, like a hunt. It gives Hans Pozo and the people that may have surrounded him some humanity, with the good and the bad parts of it.

  1. I'm so interested about the way in wich is narrated: in different perspectives. I like so much read dramatic texts, because in my opinion they allow a form of identification with the characters, like being in their shoes. And also I like so much go to the theater, so I wanna read this book and if is possible one day also I want watch the play.
